I know some of you might think, what the heck I am doing posting this here in my mom blog. You might think I'm crazy for doing so. Well, let me just say that what I'm about to talk about, it has EVERYTHING to do with being a mom. It will affect us mothers in one way or another. I will explain why as I go along.
Japan was hit by a record breaking 9.0 earth quake, shortly following that, they had a tsunami. Once the chaos settled down, or so they thought, they realized that the Nuclear power plants, that had lost power, were over heating, and were working their way towards a melt down. Then, shortly after that, a blizzard broke out in many parts of the fragile and destroyed country.
What horror these people are going through. It breaks my heart for them. I can not phantom living through so many destructions and one right after another. My thoughts and prayers are with each and everyone of them.
Here are some more facts.
While reactors 2, 5, and 6 are stable, only 5 and 6 have began to go to shut down cool down stage, and as of this moment pose no threat.
The main concerns are reactors 1, 3 and 4. One because it is unknown of the damage done there since they are primarily concerned with cooling down 3 and 4. Reactor 3 is far worse than 4, but both have significant worries.
I have been watching CNN a better part of the day. I have been watching the constant news breaking updates. I have been discussing things with fellow women.
If the worst case scenario were to happen, if one, or multiple reactors melted down, the plume would make it to Russia LONG before the prevailing winds swooped it up and pushed it our way. As far as a Nuclear fallout, America is in no "real" harm or danger in regards to that if it were to happen.
The American government is voluntarily evacuating all military personal's spouses and children/dependents. Colleges are sending home all foreign college students.
Countries such as France, Italy, Australia, and Britain are flying in their own airplanes to also evacuate their citizens in Japan.
They are doing this as a precaution. For now that is. Places like China and middle Asia are allowing Japanese wanting to leave Japan the option of coming to their countries.
Major companies that the US and many other countries buy from shut their doors and told their employees that they are indefinitely closed until further notice. We are talking big companies like Nissan, Cannon, Nikon, amongst many others. Many clothing producing companies as well. Some of those companies came on saying that they would either be permanately relocating to another country, or temporarily relocating to a different company until Japan was deemed safe.
A small amount of radiation has seeped into the ocean. Meaning sea life that we fish and eat will no longer be "safe" to fish and eat.
The American and Japanese Government are doing things slowly, releasing information slowly as to not cause global hysteria and panic.
What exactly does all of this mean to us, to American's, to Mother's like you and me.
Well, the cause and affect cycle has begun. Because it's in the air, it could eventually cause our flying food to become dangerous to eat. COULD, not will.
It could cause our sea food to also become contaminated and not suitable for eating. A great deal of our sea food comes from the Pacific ocean. This means that the prices of seafood will sky rocket, and we can expect a bigger increase on the western front that the eastern front because it will now cost more to ship from the Atlantic ocean to where we are. This could and most likely will hurt our already frail economy. Again this COULD happen, not necessarily will. No telling until it does happen.
We get most of our manufactured goods and vehicles from Japan. Since most large manufacturing plants and companies have closed and shut their doors they need new places to go, IF they are choosing to go at all. IF they chose to come to America this will un-doubtfully help our economy some. However, IF they chose to go some where else, there is no telling at this point if it will do good or bad for our economy.
IF America, as we should decide to HELP Japan out, and help them rebuild, we can cut a large bulk of our debt out. We owe Japan SO much money it's not even funny. IF we were to help them, and rebuild them, then we can see a part of our debt go away. This help however will have to be mostly pro bono or close to it.
So you see what affects it could have in your daily life? Just think for a moment, with what's going on in the middle east, we all ready see the cause and affect on our gas prices. We can expect to see the same cause and affect on clothing, certain grains/foods, products such as cameras and cars among many others. So again I ask, you see what affects it will have on your life?
Now there are many factors that can go either way for us, it really depends on a lot of different things. In our best interest to jump start our economy and get out of some debt, we ought to get those large companies to agree to open here, that would open jobs up. If jobs are opened, people are earning money, if they are earning, they are providing, if they are providing then they are buying. You see where I'm going with this. Also if we were to help re build Japan, we'd be able to knock out debt we owe them, not to mention we'd have even MORE jobs open up. Mostly military and military contractors, but still none the less, jobs.
So just because it's happening in Japan, doesn't mean it wont affect us. They say a butterfly can flap their wings half way around the world it could potentially cause a hurricane. Think about it. It may not affect you in your daily life right now like it is to the Japanese people, but it will eventually affect you.
Also, you may want to keep in mind that two of our Nuclear Power Plants also sit on highly active fault lines. One in the Eastern part of the Country, and one in Washington.
Not to mention the people here in Arizona would be screwed. We have two Nuclear Power Plants that we sit in the middle of. IF we were to feel the aftershocks and ramifications of a 9.0 earthquake from California, we could potentially have the same issue that Japan is having, except times two.
Yes we are essentially out of harms way when it comes to the possible threat of a Nuclear Fallout reaching our soil, but we are not out of harms way for the cause and affect of it all.
Just things to think about being a mother in your family. How will it ultimately affect you, your children, your family? Things you take for granted, will now cost a lot more. I know for me, I love our weekly eat out at a fish restaurant, will likely not exist if the price of fish sky rockets as they are predicting. I LOVE my lobster and Crab, and would be sad if I couldn't have it, but it's not a necessity of life. If I only got it on very special occasions, then I'd be okay with that, but I wouldn't pay over a certain price for it every week if it went up.
I hope this is informative, not meant to scare, not meant to cause hysteria. Just informative. Just to let you know that it may not be here on our home front, but it will affect us some way some how. The extent of the affect is unknown at the moment, but cause and affect will catch up to us.
That's all I have for now. Have a good night.
I'm that kind of Mother....
I'm the type of mother that will research something as long as it takes. I'm that mother that has to be informed, read reviews, take the advice of the Pediatrician and the Academy of Pediatrics Association. Yes, I'm the mother that has learned from other mothers what not to do, and what to do. I have learned what is good to purchase, and what is a waste of time and money.
I believe in a balanced sleep, play, eat schedule. I believe in a balanced diet. Most importantly I believe in following your guts and being on top of your child's clues.
I don't believe in having to call the pediatrician for every little thing. I believe I can do most of the foot work by research online. I want to be informed so I constantly check recalls, and check toys out before giving them to my son.
My son by no means lives in a box, but I will provide for him, and keep him safe when I can. After all, he is a child, and children will be children, isn't that the point of having a good childhood?
I'm not a super mom, I can't get everything done, but I have managed to get a good solid routine down for just about everything, that leaves plenty of time for me to play with my son and take him on play dates and adventures. Leaves me plenty of time to work on my passion and home business. No, I'm just a mom that found what works best for her family.
I cloth diaper and sometimes when it's more convenient I disposable diaper, make my own home made baby food, and sometimes I buy store brand baby food. I breastfeed, because I believe in giving my child every possible good start I can. I do cry it out for bed time and naps when called for. I read every day to my child. I believe in teaching my child young about good manners, habits, and most importantly about God. I do not co sleep because it forms hard to break habits. I do not believe in night lights, because it also forms poor habits. I do give my son a paci because it helps with his teething, and when he's just wanting to be fussy; we joke and call it our mute button.
I'm not your typical stay at home mom, or house wife, I'm so much more.
In this blog you will venture through my first year as a mother. It will detail what I have researched. It will details nutritional habits for my son, growth toys and products. It will detail all that is important to a mother.
So enjoy and I hope to learn from you and perhaps you can learn from me. Yes, I'm neurotic, I make schedules, calendars, and detailed nutritional guides. I want the best for my son, nothing less will suffice.

I apparently amaze my husband!
Normally my husband doesn't see the whole behind the scenes on setting Jayden's Menu up, and preparing it for the next week, or how I get things organized and easy to go for everyone.
I have a black freezable/refrigerated bag that I put 4 breast pumped bottles in. I have them labeled as use first, use second, use third, and use fourth on the caps. I rotate them around and keep them full at all times. IF they are full, and Jayden has a full bottle, and his breakfast is made, then I put what I pump into a breast storage bag that can be frozen. I do this to keep a back log JUST in case he eats more milk that day, or has a growth spurt, or whatever happens, we have a storage of milk supply.
I pump every two hours during the day, which coincides with when Jayden eats. Jayden gets a bottle between the hours of 8am-8pm. from 8:01pm-7:59am he gets to nurse. It has helped him know that nursing means sleep time, and bottle means day time. It has worked like a CHARM! Since I pump every two hours my supply has not gone down at all, in fact I am still obviously making more than he eats in a day. Don't worry he is getting more than the recommended amount of 24 ounces of breast milk a day. Even with all the food he eats, he still gets on average about 25-30 ounces a day, and some days more.
Anyways, back to the main topic, my husband being amazed at all I do. It actually made me feel good today! He validated that I'm a good mama!
I buy a weeks work of baby food items. I do ONLY a weeks worth at a time, because it makes storing it nicely easier. I buy enough stage two yogurt for the week, enough stage 1 meats, enough stage two fruits and veggies, I buy the rice and oatmeal in bulk, and I buy enough of the snack packs for a week. I then label them, Monday's Morning Fruit, Monday's Morning Snack, Monday's Lunch, Monday's Afternoon snack, Monday's dinner, Monday's evening snack, etc for all the days of the week. I stack them all Mondays with Monday's, and so forth. I make Monday's up front and Sunday's in the back. This is so everyone knows his menu nice and easily. If for whatever reason he doesn't finish something we place it in his special spot in the refrigerator, and save it for the next day, since once opened it's only good for a max of three days. I simply just place the next days item on the "extra" shelf in case theres a day he's more hungry than normal. Works out pretty nice actually. I have Jayden's Rice Cereal and Oatmeal's all measured out in a simple little container. Rice is with dinner and oatmeal is with breakfast. I have some barely and wheat and what not also, so I typically randomly give him those. I try to stick with the Oats and rice as much as possible.
Anyways, Hubby watched me for the first time the entire morning routine with Jayden and his food from start to finish today.
He was amazed at how efficient, I am, how I can multi task, how I get things ready and set up for the entire day, including making his 1 ounce of juice bottle for lunch. It's easier just to do it then, and grab it out of the fridge when it's time, or if we take off somewhere. I keep his food pack full unless it's an open item that is being refrigerated, in that case I keep it easily accesiable with the bottles in the fridge.
It seems like I'm doing a lot of work in the mornings while feeding him, I'm really not. I'm finished pumping my milk, eating my breakfast, filling his food containers, setting up his bag, and rotating his milk, and setting up his food for the day, by the time I am done feeding him. I then clean up while he plays with a toy in his high chair.
What goes in must come out, and since he is on the same feeding schedule every day, his poops have become very predictable. It's a waste of diaper, just for a little bit of pee, to change him before breakfast. I wait to change his diaper until after breakfast, because at some point during breakfast he poops. He's typically done pooping once I have cleaned everything up, gotten everything settle where it needs to go.
So i pick him up, take him to change him into his clothing for the day (Yeah we feed him in his pjs. Better to have food on clothing going into the wash than on clothing he's wearing all day. Sometimes if I needed to change his diaper before breakfast because he had already pooped I will feed him naked. Just depends).
As I'm changing his clothing, I am playing with him, singing with him, talking to him, just really interacting with him, to help him grow. I also change his diaper, whether he has pooped or not. Typically it's filled with pee by that time anyways, even if on the off chance he hasn't pooped or pooped earlier. I then dress him for the day. Lay him down on the ground with his toys, and change and ready myself for the day.
We spend the next hour -2 hours playing. He then will eat a small snack, and it's nap time for him! This is the longest period he will take a nap during the day. It's about 45mins-1 hour.
I get the dishes done and tea made during this time. I also plan my day if I need to go anywhere do anything see anyone, I plan it out now.
If Jayden is still asleep when I'm done, I will do some light dusting, and run the vacuum.
That's pretty much our day. It's non stop eat, change diaper, play, nap. Until dinner time routine.
I like to change up the playing methods to keep it interesting. Since he is working on coordinating himself for crawling, he almost has it, I try and keep him on tummy time activities, so he can master it. He's such a cutie. He would play all day if we let him.
Lately he has been getting tired earlier in the evening, but we want to stick with the bed time routine and in his crib from 8pm-8am, so we try to feed him some snack one last time, with some milk, or play with him, before his bath and bed time story. We then do that and stick him in bed at or around 8pm. He typically makes no fuss and goes right to sleep now.
That leaves me plenty of time to catch up or watch a few shows, work on homework, work on my business, catch up on some things, or simply snuggle and hang out with my hubby.
My husband is VERY amazed at how efficient I have become in all my duties! =) YAY! I figured it out!
In any case, that's about it for tonight. TTYL have a good night.

Spanking....
Today, I was asked what my views on spanking were. I will take a second and go over that with ya'll.
First I want to make it clear that My Husband and I believe in "Spare the Rod, and Spoil The Child."
Too often people take that incorrectly. They tweak it into something it is not.
As far as my Husband and I are concerned, this is how we interpret it best to our knowledge. If you must discipline, and you must do it spanking, there are guidelines.
1) NEVER, ever, EVER spank when you are angry. EVER. It is best to send the child to their room to cool off, and then you yourself cool off.
2) NEVER, ever, EVER spank using your hand. HANDS are made to love on your child. Not to harm or cause pain to your child. Use something else. Use something that is NOT to cause harm, but to discipline. For example, a small wooden ruler, a small wooden baking spoon. SMALL, not huge, not thick, small.
3) Always remind your child you love them, and remind them that to not receive another spanking that they need to start listening. That you tell them to do things, to keep them safe, or to show them how much you love them. Love on them.
So, My views on spanking are as such.
I believe it can be good deterrent, or discipline procedure. However, I will only use it if it works. If Jayden is like my sister or my husband, and laughs every time he gets spanked, well then, we will move onto the next discipline procedures. We will keep doing this until we find what works best.
Did it work for me, yes. Was it done correctly with me, no. I was made to go pick a switch from the tree, and come back with it. If I took too long I got more spankings. I don't believe in this.
Will I be spanking my Son, I do not know as of now. It will be one of those things, we will see when it happens.
So, that's my view on spanking in a nut shell, so until the next time, have a great night!
Oh and one more thing.
Arizona Mommies, we are starting a play date, a weekly one. Sometimes it's a park, sometimes it will be a paid event like the zoo or something. Sometimes it will be at a house, just whatever the group decides and can afford. So check it out. We have not yet set up next weeks adventure, so check in and lets get talking about it. =)
Have a great night!

This that I could NOT Live without to get baby boy to sleep.
So, hubby and I have tried MANY variations on helping baby boy sleep, not only through the night, but also get him to sleep, without being dependent on one of us, and keep him asleep, but also help form good sleeping habits early on.
Naturally, there were things we were simply NOT willing to compromise on. I understand some people are, and do, that's their business, and of course each child is different, and it's all an experimenting game, HOWEVER, this is what we have set, we love it, it works, so I'm gonna share it.
But FIRST: Here is what we were UNWILLING to compromise with;
1) We did not want to bed share, co-sleep, which ever you call it. First of all, I have a mama nth of a husband and a huge 70 pound dog. No way in heck was I gonna take chances with them alone. Second, I roll, toss and turn. I change positions often in the night. Not to mention I'm up like a thousand times because I have to pee, and since I get dry mouth sleeping I keep water by the bed and drink it at night, which only fuels my need to pee more. Third, hubby and have sex on the bed. Yep, two grown, consenting married adults, gasp, we actually find each other attractive still and want to have sex, lol. Fourth, I like my space to sleep. I don't like being touched once I'm asleep. Yes I like to snuggle as I'm falling asleep, but not once I am asleep. Fifth, I am a tummy sleeper. Need I say more?
2) We were not willing for him to become dependent on one of us to fall and go to sleep. Sure as a YOUNG infant it's okay. BUT now that habits are forming and he's understanding more each day, not okay, at least to us. We don't want to have to rock him to sleep, or nurse him to sleep. Sure when he's not feeling well there is ALWAYS an exception, BUT, not a habit we want to make. So yes, we do lay him in HIS CRIB, and let him fall to sleep on his own. Sometimes it takes a little crying, sometimes it does not. Just depends on the night.
3) We weren't willing to compromise on safety. What I mean by that, is children who sleep in their own beds, are safer, and pose a lower risk to sids in their first few months. ALSO, children who are started YOUNGER on sleep training, sleep better through childhood into adult hood, which means their over all health is better.
4) We weren't willing to compromise on distractions. This means NO stuffed animals, no mobiles, no crib toys, etc. We wanted Jayden to associate crib/bed, to sleep at night time. We use the pack and play for naps, so he knows it's nap time.
7) No night lights. None. We don't want him to become dependent on a night light to sleep. We still may come to a phase where he will "want" "need" one, but we will cross that bridge when we come to it.
Now, the things we settled on, and that work WONDERFUL!
1) Paci: (aka Binki, pacifier, etc), babies have this amazing ability to suckle in their sleep. It's a comfort thing. So, we let Jayden just happily suck away on his paci at night, all night.
2) Womb bear, or an app on your smart phone/droid/IPhone that makes a similar sound, like the waves one we have found. Nothing calms him down better than that.
3) Security animal head mini blanket. Oddly enough, it comforts him. Has mommy and daddy's scent on it.
4) Daddy and I sleep with his sheet and blanket for the next night in our bed, so it has our scent on it. Oddly enough Jayden sleeps better when he smells us. In fact this is a proven study.
5) Humidifier. Yep, every night. We use it. Helps pull mucus out and keep it most so it doesn't get stuck and cause congestion. Sure we have to wipe his face in the morning and changes his sheets more often, but, if it means he sleeps better because he has nothing blocking his air passages, then so be it.
6) We keep the room cool, and bundle him up. He's like mama and dada on this one. We like to snuggle under the blankets and have a cool room. It's also safer, since babies in warmer environments are exposed to a higher risk of SIDS.
7) Complete silence and darkness. We have blackout curtains, to prevent noise and light from coming in.
8) We allow Jayden to sleep how he is most comfortable. Even if that means on his tummy.
9) I feed him, asleep, at 10pm. Every night. Keeps him fuller longer, and asleep longer.
10) He stays IN HIS crib from 8pm-8am, so he KNOWS, that's night night sleeping time. No exceptions for now. We will adjust as needed.
11) Set bed time routine. Dinner, a little slow down play or cuddle time. Bath time, then read a story, then it's into bed he goes.
Well, that's it for night. Have a great night and rest of the week. Until next time!

Our First steps into the great unknown of Solid foods.
So, at Jayden's 4 month check up, with his weight gain, and milestones, and of course his horrible reflux, the Pedi said it was time to start introducing solids.
We started wee man on Rice Cereal for a week. He did really well.
We then went on to carrots. Yum! He actually LOVED his carrots. Made me so Proud! One proud mama here!
We then ventured in to Oatmeal and Peas. By the way, He LOVES his oatmeal WAY more than the rice cereal. We both eat our oatmeal in the morning, and he has his rice at night. He has Fruits in the morning now, and veggies at night.
After his Peas, we went into wheat cereal, and bananas. Out of ALL the fruits, nanners are his favorite.
He was determined to get me to give him more, after he ate one full tub of bananas and his oatmeal already!

We then Ventured into Apples!

He was determined to get me to give him more, after he ate one full tub of bananas and his oatmeal already! Then we went into green Beans, again he loved his green beans. Strange, that my child prefers his veggies over his fruits. But hey, that's something he takes after his mama. I loved my veggies as a kid, still do! His dad on the other hand, preferred fruits, in fact he still does.
Next on our list were Peaches. Unfortently, although he loved Peaches, he has an intolerance, and had an allergic reaction, a pretty bad one, to the peaches. So Peaches are now off his list as of now. We will try them again in 3-6 months since some children grow out things like this.
Next on our list was Squash! He had a blast with these.
Pears were next. He hasn't seemed to like or dislike them. He eats them. Sometimes he fusses about them, but mostly because he's a little over hungry.
We are graduating stage one baby food in a week. All he has left is sweet potatoes for three days, and three days of prunes. We will be going to stage two baby food, with a whole new menu. We added juice, snack items, and yogurt. =) So we have another exciting Month of baby food! =) So excited! Stay tuned to watch Jayden grow through this with us.
Have a great night, and stay tuned in for the next blog, that one will be on sleep training. What has worked, what hasn't. All the research we have done. Have a great night.

Useful? Or a big fat waste of money?
All new mothers to be get "the list". You SO know what I'm talking about. The list that the stores give you when you go baby registering. The one that's like a MILLION miles long. Even some on the internet are enough to give you a small heart attack or panic attack.
Well, rest assure, you do not have to buy all that crap. Not right away at least, and some is so useless, that I wouldn't even waste the money unless you are dead set on using it. I'm gonna tell you what we bought and why. As well as what we decided to skip or put off and why.
1) Crib. Yeah, this was QUITE the controversial thing in my family, well, hubby's dads side at least. They told me I was CRAZY for wanting a 700 dollar crib. Well, lets compare MY crib that retail is 700 dollars (Which I got for 150 brand new still in the box, never used by a seller on craigslist. She had gotten 4 cribs at her baby shower, obviously only needed one.) Anyways first it's a convertible bed. A 4-in-1 crib. So not only does it have the two stage crib, up high then goes down once the child learns to sit, crawl, stand, all that jazz. BUT, it converts to a toddler bed, then a day bed, and eventually a full size bed. He will be able to take this bed to college with him. Secondly it is made out of OAK. Yeah, oak. Sturdy, long lasting, durable, because boys will be boys, oak. See where I'm going with this? Yeah, idea here, LONG TERM. All we have to do is buy a mattress once we convert from a toddler bed to a full bed.
2) BREAST PUMP, for all you breast feeding mommies. I have two. An electric double pump for at home, and a handheld battery operated one for on the go. YES, I said two. BOTH must haves. HOWEVER, if funds are an issue, which seems to be so for most people now a days, I suggest the handheld one. Works just as great, just takes longer to pump at home.
3) The crib positioner, Great idea in theory. Works SOMETIMES. HOWEVER, here's the issues WE had, and I know, not true for all babies, but has been good to have on hand JUST in case. Jayden moves A LOT in his sleep, he ended up rolling over them, and well, he'd get mad. Also, Jayden is a tummy sleeper, just like mama, and well, can't place him on his tummy in one, doesn't work right. However, before he could sleep on his side on his own, and when he wanted to sleep on his side, it has helped keep him in place. So yes, I rate this as a middle of the road good investment.
4) Changing table. Not so much. Really, takes up a lot of room, and really, chances are you will just start changing your baby where ever you are, and will not make the trips to the changing table every time. I decided to forego this. Because......
5) 4-in-1 Pack and Play. It comes with the pack and play, the insert able bassinet, the changing table, and the diaper/wipe/necessities holding station. I used this IN PLACE of an actual bassinet, and changing table. So I got 4 items of NEED in one deal. This is also a grow with child item. So this is a MUST HAVE investment in my book. I currently have it in the living room, that we use for a napping place down stairs, so I'm not constantly having to run up and down the stairs.
6) Boppy Pillow/Nursing Pillow. I say if you are gonna go with one, go with the boppy pillow, it's more versatile. Get the one that is the 4-in-1 boppy pillow, from newborn-infant-baby-toddler. Not the biggest fan of this, however, it is a good Pillow to pull a pillow case over, for Jayden to sleep on, when he wants to be cuddled the entire time.
7) Baby monitors. These are one of those, meh things. We like it so we can see it from the outside, but really, inside we can hear him just fine. I know though, that this might turn valuable once he is older, and not sleeping in his crib next to my head.
8) Swings, now some babies like these, and some don't. It's one of those things, you will have to buy and see if it works.
9) Bouncy seats, the same as the swings. We have two separate types, we have the little baby Eisenstein seat, and a Fischer price 2-in-1 rocker infant to toddler seat.
10) Organzier for toys/diapers/ blankets/burp cloth/etc. MUST have. We have two. We have a Munckin one that we are using for now, and as he gets more and more toys, we have a Fischer price bucket one on rails. (That's the best I can describe it).
11) Rocker for the nursery. MUST MUST MUST have. There have been nights, when all Jayden wanted was to be rocked to sleep.
12) Enough safety gear to keep your baby safe. This includes outlet plugs, baby gates, tv anchors, cabin ate locks.
13) Although controversial to some, I think the walker is a invaluable toy. It has kept Jayden playing for hours on end, it helps him with exercising his legs, it gives him the independence and freedom that he's wanting. Some don't like it because they claim it "prolongs" walking. In fact we are finding it's doing the opposite. Seriously BEST toy ever! Ours is a jummpy, walker, with a car type like toy on top, that can be removed and theres a snack tray under neath. LOVE it. A MUST in my book.
14) High chairs. When it comes to high chairs, big bulky, single use high chairs, are a thing of the past. I'm obviously one that likes my all in one items. We have the all in one high chair, that turns into a booster seat down the road. It's a snap into a chair one. Not a big bulky floor one.
15) Womb bear. I don't have to say anything more, than the MOST VALUABLE thing for the nursery.
16) Toys, that are age appropriate, that help with eye hand coordination.
17) Cloth diapers. I know they sound rather alarming to some, but they really are MUCH better than disposable diapers. Not only are they better, but they are more cost efficient. Turly they are.
18) Paci's. MUST have during teething.
18) teething rings, I'm not such a big fan of them.
19) Paci Leashes, also a must have.
20) 2-in-1 shopping cart/high chair cover. Absolutely Must have!
That's about it for now. As time comes I will add more and more to this list.
Have a great night!

The basics: Starting out slowly
Baby boy, my sweet little man Jayden, blessed us with his debate at 41 1/2 weeks gestation. He was 6 pounds 2 ounces and 19 inches long.
I had planned on formula feeding him, until about when I was 5 months pregnant. Something inside of me changed, and I had this irresistible urge to breast feed. And not only, "I will try breast feeding" type mentality, but a "I'm definitely breastfeeding no matter what it takes" mentality.
I immediately jumped into research mode and looked up all the benefits of breastfeeding, which only sold me more into the desire to exclusively breastfeed.
I then researched how to be successful at breastfeeding, and eventually pumping my milk. I wanted to make sure I would have no issues, and have no issues with supply.
I researched everything from how to, diet, and life styles.
This is what I have learned:
1) Eat oatmeal every morning for breakfast, not only does it give you a good amount of Iron, but it also pushes some of that iron that breastfed babies need into your breastmilk.
2) When pumping, pump NO LESS than 15 mins per breast.
3) When pumping, pump both breasts at each pumping session.
4) Massage your breast all over, prior, during and after to stimulate breast flow and milk production.
5) Smear a little of baby's saliva on breast, it stimulates milk production.
6) They have an insert that goes into the breast shield part of the pump that massages all areas of the breast as you are pumping, I highly suggest getting one.
7) Eat every 2 hours, even small snacks, the more calories you pack in (Within the appropriate amounts) the better milk production is.
8) If your baby is not nursing every 2-3 hours, make sure you are pumping.
9) Your milk works over time at night, so a good nights sleep, although difficult sometimes, is a must! SO, that means get on daddy's case to help you sleep AT LEAST in 3 hour stretches, in order for your milk to ramp up. Studies have shown that women who can get 3 consecutive hours of sleep at night at least twice a night have better milk production.
10) Avoid TOO many carbs, and take in as much protein as possible.

Jayden was exclusively breastfeed until 4 months old. He had nothing but breastmilk. This was very important to me.
In fact he still gets his breast milk, we plan to still give him breast milk one way or another until he self weans, or age two.
Stay tuned for the next stage of food, but first, some tips on things that are worth the money and somethings that are worth skipping.
